The Bernachon House was created by Maurice Bernachon in 1953. The house is now run by Philippe and Stéphanie Bernachon, the 3rd generation of chocolate makers, and is a reference in chocolate making in Lyon.

Its success results from being one of the only chocolate makers to roast cocoa beans in its own laboratory. As early as the 1970s, Maurice Bernachon imported a dozen carefully selected "crus" from the Indian Ocean, Indonesia and South America, which still contribute to the company's reputation.

The speciality of the house is "le président". It was created in 1975 in collaboration with Paul Bocuse when he was awarded the Legion of Honour by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing.
